Classes: Tuesday, Thursday
Original Okinawan Karate of Cortland, New York, is located in the Crown City of the Seven Valleys. Established as a Shibu dojo (a school that reports directly to the headquarters dojo of the Beikoku Shido-kan Association) in March 1997, Original Okinawan Karate of Cortland recently celebrated its fifteenth anniversary.
The school director, Sensei Patrick Perfetti, Yon-dan, first learned karate under Sensei Seikichi Iha at the Michigan Hombu dojo (headquarters dojo of the Beikoku Shido-kan Association) while he was attending Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.
Sensei Perfetti relocated to his native New York to enter the practice of law. After two years in the Buffalo Legal Aid Bureau, Sensei Perfetti moved to his hometown of Cortland, NY. He started his school at the Cortland Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA), where it is still located. The school began very modestly with only four students and Sensei Perfetti teaching the first year without compensation.
